When it comes to modelling, a lot of people have a misconception of what it really means and entails. If you have had a curiosity about the industry and want to explore it further, firstly you need to understand just what this job will require of you.
The facet of modelling is the beautiful final images and the fierce runway strut. But behind the scenes of the glamorous models are hours and hours of work. Work on themselves – skills, health, fitness, beauty rituals etc. These would be the more obvious “to do things” of a model’s job to prepare for the photoshoots and the fashion shows.
What many fail to understand, or simply are not aware of, is there are also a lot of business skills that models need to master to become successful in the industry. You not only need to know the catwalk and editorial capabilities, but how to get those castings and job opportunities in order to show off your modelling talent.
It is vital for a model to incorporate some entrepreneurial skills, such as setting yourself up as a business, understand your modelling finances, systemise marketing strategies for your branding and networking.
So, modelling is definitely not just runway and editorial. This industry is more about brains than beauty.
